Won't Be Me Out Now

Nashville, TN — March 31st 2023: Following the January release of her debut single “Taillights Fade,” singer, songwriter, and producer Madelyn Rose is sharing a new single — “Won’t Be Me” — today via Vere Music. Guitar Girl Magazine, in an exclusive premiere posted today, praised the song as “vibrant” and the singer’s voice as “crème de la crème... tilted with dreamy-lite nuances,” going on to declare: “With ‘Won’t Be Me,’ she establishes herself as a rising star in the country music scene.”

Following up on similar themes to her first single, “Won’t Be Me” finds the emerging sixteen- year-old songwriter processing heartbreak with a sense of maturity that nonetheless leaves room for a certain youthful optimism both befitting and outgrowing her age. Unfolding slowly in a simmering arrangement, “Won’t Be Me” builds from reflective to anthemic in a perfect showcase of Rose’s growing talents in both modes of writing.

“‘Won’t Be Me’ is a song inspired by a breakup and the emotional transition that accompanies it,” Rose explains in a statement. “The initial heartbreak when your ex moves on turns to confidence and contentment that new person they're dating isn't you.”

Recorded in Nashville with co-writers and producers Justin Klump and Tori Tullier, “Won’t Be Me” is the second in a new batch of singles that seem poised to put the young artist on the map in the Nashville country scene. The single will be Rose’s second on Vere Music, a Nashville- based label and distributor founded by longtime Hootie and the Blowfish manager Rusty Harmon.

Signing with Vere Music in 2022 was the culmination of years of unpretentious practice for Rose; she started playing music at the age of four, and years later she spent the early part of the COVID-19 pandemic honing her songwriting and teaching herself how to produce, record, and mix music herself. Currently based in central New York, Rose now frequently travels to Nashville to work on music.

On a recent episode of the nationally syndicated TV interview series The Paltrocast with Darren Paltrowitz, Rose discussed her relationship to her hometown and to her new home-away-from- home in Nashville while shining some light on her unique songwriting process and the perspective she takes in that work. Watch here.

Only sixteen years old, Rose continues to find a resonance between her lived experiences as a teenager in small-town America — young love, heartbreak, new drivers’ licenses — and the empowering, anthemic vibes of classic country greats like her all-time idol Carrie Underwood. If these first two singles are any indication, Rose — a lifelong country fan — looks primed to become an important voice in her generation’s newfound relationship with the genre.
