“Sober” out now!

Nashville, TN — June 23rd, 2023: Teen Country singer-songwriter Madelyn Rose releases new single, “Sober,” today, Friday June 23rd, on Vere Music as the latest in a string of 2023 singles that’s included her debut “Taillights Fade,” its followup “Won’t Be Me,” and her most recent single “Heart Space” released earlier this month. Recorded in Nashville earlier this spring with producers David Spielberg and J.W. Robb , “Sober” marks a huge leap forward for the teenage songwriter, taking the heartbreak-storytelling of Rose’s first three singles to a more nuanced territory exploring the difficult post-breakup space of trying not to drift back towards a person you know is bad for you. Full EP to follow this July.

“‘Sober’ is a song about the difficulty we often find in trying to stay away from someone who's not good for us,” Rose explained in a statement, “and the delicate balance we strike in trying to figure out how to miss them while still taking the space to heal. Based around a central metaphor comparing liquor to love, the new single -- written by the teenage songwriter alongside co-writer Deanna Walker -- outlines a complicated and grown-up moment in teenage heartbreak. Rose will also soon be performing the new single in the Rochester area.

The announcement of “Sober” comes on the heels of an impressive string of 2023 singles that continued earlier this month with the release of “Heart Space,” a song that tackles similar themes of navigating heartbreak from Rose’s uniquely youthful perspective. In their review of Rose’s previous single, “Won’t Be Me” — which racked up over 25K streams in its first two weeks — Guitar Girl Magazine dubbed Rose “a rising star in the country music scene.”

Madelyn Rose’s 2022 signing with Nashville-based label Vere Music, founded by longtime Hootie & The Blowfish manager Rusty Harmon, was the culmination of years of unpretentious practice and discipline for the young songwriter. Rose played music for the first time at the age of four, and years later spent the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic honing her songwriting and eagerly teaching herself the essentials of recording, mixing, and mastering in her own bedroom. Currently based in central New York, Rose later began traveling to Nashville to take her music to the next level with the local talent in music’s capital city.

Rose’s recording sessions in her home-away-from home in Nashville have yielded some of the emerging songwriter’s most impressive and honest work yet, painting her unique sensibilities with a rich and curious production palette that has continually encouraged the songwriter to push her craft to new places.

Only sixteen years old, Rose continues to find a resonance between her lived experiences as a teenager in small-town America — young love, heartbreak, new drivers’ licenses — and the empowering, anthemic vibes of classic country greats like her all-time idol Carrie Underwood. If these singles are any indication, Rose — a lifelong country fan — looks primed to become an important voice in her generation’s newfound relationship with country music, at the same time as she’s learning to inhabit herself more clearly in her songwriting too.
